The cycle 4 call for proposals on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is opening soon on the 1<sup>st</sup><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>August with a deadline of 16<sup>th</sup><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>October 2024.<br>
<br>
Accordingly, we are planning a third JWST proposals masterclass in Sydney (University of Sydney, Camperdown) on the<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><b>4<sup>th</sup><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>and 5<sup>th</sup><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>September
 2024</b><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>to assist the Australian community in familiarising themselves with the JWST proposal tools and process, as well as the instruments’ technical capabilities.<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>Proposals
 for JWST have a bigger hurdle than many other telescopes, as they need to incorporate a complete observing program specification in the Astronomers Proposal Tool (i.e. what are traditionally known as ‘Phase 1’ and ‘Phase 2’ are required upfront at the proposal
 stage for JWST).<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<u>Wednesday 4<sup>th</sup></u><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><u>Sept</u>: Overview of the instruments, and how to use the various proposal tools (exposure time calculator, sensitivity tool, multi-shutter assembly planning tool)<br>
<u>Thursday 5<sup>th</sup></u><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><u>Sept</u>: proposal tools continued, designing, and submitting proposals via the Astronomer’s Proposal Tool (APT).<br>
