<p class="MsoNormal">Are you interested in helping shape the future of astronomy science in Australia? The Australian Academy of Science’s National Committee for Astronomy (NCA) is calling for expressions of interest from individuals who are part of the Australian
astronomical community to join the committee as new members. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The NCA is one of the Academy’s 22 National Committees for Science. The committee exists to foster astronomy in Australia, to liaise with international scientific bodies and to advise the Council of the Academy on relevant scientific matters.
One of its main activities includes providing input into domestic policy in line with the
<a href="https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/pWXMCGv0oyCBKyKnwUK768Y?domain=science.org.au">
Decadal plan for Australian astronomy (2016-2025).</a> In 2020 the committee also reviewed the current decadal plan and published the
<a href="https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/fzbMCJyBrGfB343OxUGvo9f?domain=science.org.au">
mid-term review</a>. The committee is currently conducting formal strategic planning for the upcoming Decadal Plan for 2026-2035.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#242424;mso-ligatures:none;mso-fareast-language:EN-AU"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The NCA is made up of eight members appointed by the Executive Committee of the Academy, plus observers. The current membership of the committee is listed

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The NCA is calling for nominees from the Australian research community. Nominees should be active scientists in the field and respected members of the Australian astronomical community. We are seeking representation from a broad spread
of institutions and specialisations. The committee values diversity and inclusion and encourages members of all backgrounds and identities to apply.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>We are currently seeking candidates to fill three vacant positions: two ordinary committee members and one EMCR.
</b>Note that selected new members are expected to be available to attend the 2023 annual NCA meeting, scheduled for 10.00 am to 3.00 pm, Monday 11 December 2023.<b><o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Please note that all nominations will be reviewed by a panel consisting of the NCA Chair, ASA president and one Fellow of the Academy who is not an NCA member. This review panel (in consultation with the Academy's Secretary for Science
Policy and Foreign Secretary) will make a recommendation on the vacant positions to the Academy’s Executive Committee for approval. NCA members are appointed for a term of three years with re-appointment for one further year possible in exceptional circumstances,
while EMCR members are appointed for two years with possible transition to full membership thereafter.
