Dear colleagues,<br>
<br>
The <a moz-do-not-send="true" href="https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/Dc8YCD1vlpTBnG0v7FW8ZxQ?domain=asa-ecr.org/">Early
Career Researcher (ECR) Chapter of the ASA</a> is inviting
nominations for six positions on the Chapter Steering Committee -
student representative, senior representative, three ordinary
committee members and the Chair**. Nominations should be submitted
by email to <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated

<b>by Friday 10 June, 2022.</b><br>
<br>
The Chapter is active in promoting and assisting the career
development of early- and mid-career researchers in the Australian
astronomy community. The goals of the chapter are:<br>
<br>
- Inform the members about opportunities for professional training
and support<br>
- Provide training for the members in areas of professional
development<br>
- Connect the members with each other, with senior academic mentors,
and with former academics working in industry, providing a support
network<br>
- Act as an advocacy and representation body for the members<br>
<br>
The ECR chapter has been active since 2013. Over that period it has
organised activities that have been beneficial to our ECR members,
including workshops (2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022), an
‘Astronomers in Industry’ group for perspectives and advice on
moving into industry, a scheme for providing feedback on writing
(2019), the annual ‘Speed-Meet-a-Mentor’ session at the ASA meeting,
and a mentoring scheme for partnering senior mentors with postdocs
and PhD students.<br>
<br>
The ECR Chapter is run by a Steering Committee who develop and carry
out initiatives to fulfill the Chapter’s goals. The Committee
consists of a Chair, five ordinary Steering Committee members, a
student representative and a senior representative. Terms are held
for two years (ordinary members) and one year (student
representative and senior representative). This year we are looking
for the Chair, 3 ordinary members, the student representative and
the senior representative. If we receive more nominations than open
positions, then a vote will be held.<br>
<br>
In the interest of having a steering committee that reflects the
diverse experiences of the community, we particularly encourage
people from racial, cultural and gender minorities to nominate.
These positions are open to all Chapter members, except for the
student representative, which is open to students only. You can
become a member of the Chapter through the ASA membership website at

<br>
Manodeep Sinha will be the returning officer for this election.
Please send all nominations via email to <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated moz-txt-link-freetext" href="mailto:msinha@swin.edu.au">msinha@swin.edu.au</a> <b>by

intend to contribute to the <a moz-do-not-send="true" href="https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/sFJLCGv0oyCJ0XGYripex_U?domain=asa-ecr.org/">broad goals of the Chapter</a>.
Please note that this information will be made available to voters

<br>
Kind regards,<br>
Manodeep Sinha - Returning Officer and ECR Chapter Steering
Committee immediate past chair<br>
(on behalf of the ECR Chapter steering committee)<br>
