There are 2 application deadlines each year, the next of which is <b>31 May 2022</b>. A number of Australian graduate students have benefited from this opportunity since the commencement of Australia’s Strategic Partnership with ESO.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>In response to the disruptions caused by the pandemic ESO has now launched a new <a href="https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/jAoWCGv0oyCJpBO2XF7dIpH?domain=eso.org">Early-Career Scientist Visitor Programme</a>. The programme is meant to allow early-career scientists (PhD students and postdoc up to three years from the PhD) to spend a shorter duration (from one to four months) working on their science projects at ESO. With this programme, ESO aims to promote scientific interaction with its community and research institutions worldwide and enhance ESO's role as an astronomical centre of excellence. While working on their research project, there will be the opportunity for early-career astronomers to promote their research and look for new potential collaborators through this programme. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Applications may be submitted at any time, at least 4 months before the start of the proposed visit. Potential applicants are encouraged to directly contact any ESO staff member or Fellow and coordinate their planned visit with them. Alternatively, any potential applicant may contact the Chair of the ESO Scientific Visitor Selection Committee (<a href="mailto:vsc-chair@eso.org">vsc-chair@eso.org</a>) to put them in contact with an ESO staff member or Fellow working in their field of research.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>While at ESO, a scientific visitor has the status of Unpaid Associate and receives a monthly allowance to cover living expenses and family support (if needed). Generally, ESO provides accommodation for visitors in the form of fully furnished apartments in Garching, or in a Hotel or ApartHotel in Santiago. Should the visitor arrange to stay elsewhere, reimbursement of accommodation expenses at the level of the costs of a comparable ESO apartment is possible if proof of rent payment is submitted. Travel expenses to and from ESO are also generally reimbursed. ESO can provide family support on demand for visitors with child care responsibilities.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Further information about this new programme can be found on the dedicated web pages for <a href="https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/EgFICNLJyQUNrZPwyuztITY?domain=eso.org">Garching</a> and <a href="https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/TzGSCK1DvKTqvDMZpsAn0p1?domain=eso.org">Santiago</a>.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;text-autospace:none'><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'>______________________________<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;text-autospace:none'><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'>Dr. Stuart Ryder<br>Program Manager (Mon, Wed, Fri)<br>Astronomy Australia Ltd.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;text-autospace:none'><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'>T: +61 (02) 9372 4843<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'>M: +61 (0419) 970834 <br>E: <u><span style='color:blue'><a href="mailto:stuart.ryder@astronomyaustralia.org.au"><span style='color:#0563C1'>stuart.ryder@astronomyaustralia.org.au</span></a></span></u><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'>W: <a href="https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/8vOqCL7EwMfPpkwl8Cjr-13?domain=astronomyaustralia.org.au/"><span style='color:blue'>www.astronomyaustralia.org.au</span></a> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'>O: c/o AAO, 105 Delhi Rd, North Ryde, NSW 2113, Australia<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;text-autospace:none'><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><table class=MsoNormalTable border=0 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 style='margin-left:5.4pt;border-collapse:collapse'><tr><td width=66 valign=top style='width:49.25pt;padding:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt'><p class=MsoNormal align=center style='text-align:center'><span style='color:black;mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'><img border=0 width=38 height=35 style='width:.4in;height:.3666in' id="Picture_x0020_1" src="cid:image001.jpg@01D83D07.DCB6E9F0" alt="aal_logo_notext"></span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p></td><td width=510 valign=top style='width:382.7pt;padding:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt'><p class=MsoNormal><i><span style='color:black;mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'>AAL endeavours to be an environmentally sustainable organisation built upon equity, diversity and mutual respect for its staff and stakeholders.<o:p></o:p></span></i></p></td></tr></table><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div></body></html>
