<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000">At the 2020 Annual General Meeting, the ASA announced the creation of a “<span data-markjs="true" class="markiaptvtcqr" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">COVID</span>-<span data-markjs="true" class="mark77ofc3id0" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">fund</span>”
to provide financial support for research-enabling activities to members-in-need. In the first funding round we supported 9 requests from students and ECRs.<br>

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000"><i>We are now opening a second round.
<b>Applications will be considered as they are received</b>, with a final closing date of
<b>October 30, 2020</b>. Funding is available for costs incurred in the July 1, 2020 - October 30, 2020 period.</i><br>

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000; font-weight:700">Scope of support</span></p>
<br>
<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000">The
<span data-markjs="true" class="mark77ofc3id0" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">
fund</span> supports “research-enabling” activity within the current <span data-markjs="true" class="markiaptvtcqr" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">
COVID</span>-affected environment. In all cases, priority is for members for whom their institution does not provide such
<span data-markjs="true" class="mark77ofc3id0" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">
fund</span>ing, and justification of all requests is required. We want to ensure that the
<span data-markjs="true" class="mark77ofc3id0" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">
fund</span>s genuinely go to those with the highest needs.</span></p>

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000"><span data-markjs="true" class="mark77ofc3id0" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">Fund</span>s amay be available
for the following (not-exhaustive) list of costs. Evidence and receipts are required:<br>

</li><li dir="ltr" style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000"><span>Home internet costs while working from home</span></li><li dir="ltr" style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000"><span>Home computing storage devices while working from home (e.g., SSDs)<br>
</span></li><li dir="ltr" style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000">
<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span>Childcare-associated, or daycare, costs while attending conferences and meetings</span></p>
</li><li dir="ltr" style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000">
<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span>Support for professional and career development activities – especially if it is diversifying skills beyond research/astronomy</span></p>

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span>Other expenditure, demonstrated to be enabling research (justification required).</span></p>

<span style="font-size: 11pt;">In addition to these costs, successful applicants may also be offered
</span><span style="font-size: 11pt;">reimbursement of ASA membership fees for 2020, or waiving of fees for 2021.</span><br>

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000">Students and ECRs (within five years FTE of PhD) will be strongly prioritised. More senior members with a very compelling
case may also be considered.</span></p>

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000">Individual payments,
</span><span style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000; font-weight:700">up to $1,500</span><span style="font-size:11pt; font-family:Arial; color:#000000">, with the expectation that most requests would be substantially less than this amount.
Members can apply in more than one <span data-markjs="true" class="mark77ofc3id0" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">
fund</span>ing round, if <span data-markjs="true" class="mark77ofc3id0" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">
fund</span>s are available, but the total integrated <span data-markjs="true" class="mark77ofc3id0" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">
fund</span>ing per individual is capped at $1,500. </span></p>
