<div class="">Dear ASTRO 3D members. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Please join us for our next A3D Zoom colloquium at 2PM Tuesday 21st April. Mark your calendars! </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">This month we have our Director, Professor Lisa Kewley speaking from ANU. Aside from leading a large team of incredibly talented researchers, technical and admin staff, Lisa is a world-leading expert in the theoretical modelling and observation
of star-forming and active galaxies. Her recent research combines stellar evolution and photoionisation models with cosmological hydrodynamic simulations to predict how the ionising radiation in galaxies changes over time.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">See below for the talk and dial-in details.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">All talks are 25+5min. Please connect with both your video and audio OFF. Please try and limit questions to after the talk. If you’ve never used Zoom before you’ll need to install some software; you’ll be prompted when you click the link, so best
to get that set up beforehand. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Thanks, and see you on the 21st!</div>

<div class="">TITLE & ABSTRACT: </div>
<div class=""><i class="">Closing the gap: full workforce gender modelling for STEM in Australia</i></div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">
<div class="">The fraction of women at the higher levels in Australian STEM remains at 20-30%, despite having achieved parity at level A (junior postdoc) for nearly two decades. I present an evidence-based Monte Carlo model that can reproduce the current gender
disparity at all levels in Australian science, starting with the 2002 data. I show that either a small 2-3% implicit bias in recruitment and/or double the number of departures from women at levels A-B can explain the current gender gap. To provide institutions
with guidance in closing the gap, I run my models forward in time, while including various initiatives, such as 50:50 hiring, a goal of 50:50 departures, and equal retirements. I show that the current gender gap for levels B-E in Australian STEM in academia
can be closed within 12-15 years with the implementation of reasonable and fair initiatives. These results have important implications for future workforce planning at institutions worldwide.</div>
