We are still looking for highly motivated Early Career Researchers to join the ECR chapter steering committee. Nominations are now due by 3rd July, so please let the returning officer know if you would like to nominate yourself. The committee is a great opportunity to make a difference for other ECRs, but a relatively small time commitment.

The details regarding the committee are below. Please get in touch if you are interested or have any questions, or else go to http://asaecr.smp.uq.edu.au/

Kind regards,
David Parkinson - ECR chapter steering committee immediate past chair and returning officer

--------------------
Dear all,

The Early Career Researcher Chapter of the ASA is inviting ECR Chapter Members to nominate for a number of positions on the Chapter Steering Committee.

The Chapter is active in promoting and assisting the career development of early to mid-career researchers in the Australian astronomy community. The goals of the chapter are:

* Inform the members about opportunities for professional training and support
* Provide training for the members in areas of professional development
* Connect the members with each other, and also with senior researcher mentors, providing a support network
* Acting as an advocacy and representation body for its members

The ECR chapter has been active since 2013. Over that period it has organised activities that have been beneficial to our ECR members, including three workshops (2012, 2014 and 2016), the ‘Meet-a-Mentor’ session at the annual ASA meeting (co-organised with the Diversity in Astronomy Chapter), and a mentoring scheme, partnering senior mentors with postdocs and finishing students.

The ECR Chapter is run by a Steering Committee who play a leading role in devising and implementing initiatives to fulfil the Chapter’s goals. The Committee consists of a Chair, five Steering Committee members, a student representative and a senior representative. There is also an ASA council representative, who is ex-officio unless they are also elected to the committee. Terms are held for two years (full representatives) and one year (student representative and senior representative).

We are now inviting nominations for four positions, which are chair (replacing Sarah Martell), student representative, and three ordinary committee members. These positions are open to all Chapter members, except for the student representative (open to students only). Existing Steering Committee members are welcome to renominate if they wish.

The election schedule is as follows:

- call for nominations: 9-23 June
- election period: 26 June - 6 July
- results announced: 7 July
- new positions commence: 10 July

David Parkinson will once again be the returning officer for this election, so all nominations should go to his university email (d.parkinson at uq.edu.au<mailto:d.parkinson at uq.edu.au>). Each nomination must include a brief paragraph summarising your interest in the position and how you envisage to contribute to the broad goals of the Chapter. Please note that this information will be made available to voters.

Kind regards,

David Parkinson - ECR chapter steering committee immediate past chair and returning officer
on behalf of the ECR Chapter steering committee.
