The Chapter is active in promoting and assisting the career development of early to mid-career researchers in the Australian astronomy community. The goals of the chapter are: * Inform the members about opportunities for professional training and support * Provide training for the members in areas of professional development * Connect the members with each other, and also with senior researcher mentors, providing a support network * Acting as an advocacy and representation body for its members The ECR chapter has been active since 2013. Over that period it has organised activities that have been beneficial to our ECR members, including three workshops (2012, 2014 and 2016), the ?Meet-a-Mentor? session at the annual ASA meeting (co-organised with the Diversity in Astronomy Chapter), and a mentoring scheme, partnering senior mentors with postdocs and finishing students. The ECR Chapter is run by a Steering Committee who play a leading role in devising and implementing initiatives to fulfil the Chapter?s goals. The Committee consists of a Chair, five Steering Committee members, a student representative and a senior representative. There is also an ASA council representative, who is ex-officio unless they are also elected to the committee. Terms are held for two years (full representatives) and one year (student representative and senior representative). We are now inviting nominations for four positions, which are chair (replacing Sarah Martell), student representative, and three ordinary committee members. These positions are open to all Chapter members, except for the student representative (open to students only). Existing Steering Committee members are welcome to renominate if they wish. The election schedule is as follows: - call for nominations: 9-23 June - election period: 26 June - 6 July - results announced: 7 July - new positions commence: 10 July David Parkinson will once again be the returning officer for this election, so all nominations should go to his university email (d.parkinson at uq.edu.au). Each nomination must include a brief paragraph summarising your interest in the position and how you envisage to contribute to the broad goals of the Chapter. Please note that this information will be made available to voters. The event will include a series of talks, multiple unconference sessions, and a full day working on interesting, useful, innovative projects. Much of the content will be driven by the conference participants in a dynamic environment to maximize sharing, learning, and producing. In addition, we will also have a Day Zero ? tech skills training day, to introduce participants to the .Astronomy format and offer tutorials on the latest tools. Links to blog posts and hack projects from previous .Astronomy conferences can be found on Twitter: @dotastronomy #dotastro Note that Astroinformatics 2017 (http://www.astroinformatics2017.ska.ac.za ) will run the week before ?? Why not attend both? ;) Please see the website for more information about the program and invited speakers: http://dotastronomy9.saao.ac.za/ . In addition, the pre-registration form is available as well and will be open until 1 July. The form is available at https://tinyurl.com/dotastro9 . The conference will be limited to ~60 participants, and as such, we ask each participant to provide the reason why they want to attend and what they might contribute. We highly encourage people from traditionally underrepresented groups in astronomy to apply. If you have any questions, please email Dr. Steve Crawford at: crawford at saao.ac.za . The event will be hosted at the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) jointly with the IAU Office of Astronomy for Development. This school aims to provide knowledge and hands-on experience of radio astronomy to people new to the field, including PhD students and post-doctoral researchers. The format of the school will be similar to previous CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science radio schools, with a mix of lectures and practical sessions. Material will be presented by both radio astronomers and engineers. No prior experience with radio astronomy is required. The school will cover a diverse range of topics across all areas of radio-astronomy, with a focus on interferometric observations. Registration is now open. Attendance will be limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration fee is $260 for students (and $320 for non-students) and will cover lunches, teas/coffees and one or two evening meals.
