Dear ASA colleagues,

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position
in galaxy evolution at UNSW. This is a three year funded appointment,
details are available through:

http://www.jobs.unsw.edu.au/

Reference: 57200

The Research Associate will work with A/Prof Sarah Brough to analyse and
interpret data from optical follow-up imaging of spectroscopic surveys
to understand the nature of the diffuse intracluster light in nearby
galaxy groups and clusters. The galaxy groups and clusters have been
studied by the Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA) and Sydney-AAO Multi-IFU
(SAMI) surveys and have a wealth of multi-wavelength observations
available. This position requires prior experience in analysing low
surface brightness features in optical images.
,
The position will be offered at Academic level A for 3 years full-time,
however a part-time arrangement may be negotiated with the right applicant.

*About the role*

  * Fixed Term for three years (35 hours per week)
  * Full-time or Part-time negotiable
  * Reference: 57200

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  * Perform research on the diffuse intracluster light in nearby
galaxy groups and clusters using optical multi-colour images
  * Perform independent research generated by the Research Associate
  * Apply for telescope time as needed
  * Write research papers and present results at conferences
  * Participate in the department seminars and colloquia
  * Collaborate with other members of the research group and
collaborate with PhD and Honours students

*About you:*

To be successful in this role you will:

  * A PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics or related discipline prior
    to starting the position.
  * Experience in analysing low surface brightness features in
astronomical images or related astronomical data analysis.
  * Demonstrated ability to conduct research and publish in leading
    international scientific journals.
  * A research track record (relative to opportunity) in the
discipline area as evidenced by conference presentations and
    publications.
  * Ability to work effectively as part of a research team and to
contribute to the broader intellectual environment of the School of
    Physics.

You should systematically address the selection criteria listed in your
application. Please apply online - applications will not be accepted if
sent directly to the listed contact. A/Prof Sarah Brough
