Results can be funnelled through higher-level modules to build custom mock galaxy catalogues and images. TAO will be particularly valuable to users of galaxy survey data. Please let your local and international colleagues know about TAO, as it is accessible through the internet by anyone anywhere in the world. The companion paper describing TAO can be found at http://arxiv.org/abs/1403.5270. TAO is part of the All-Sky Virtual Observatory (ASVO) and is funded and supported by Astronomy Australia Limited, the National eResearch Collaboration Tools and Resources (NeCTAR), and Swinburne University of Technology. Wish you had opportunity to teach your knowledge to high school students (years 11-12)? Our first "CAASTRO in the Classroom PLUS" session with the incredible Aina Musaeva was a significant success, with Aina talking about electromagnetism to 150 students in schools from Katoomba to Norfolk Island, and even being offered a job!!! Following this, we intend to offer an expanded lecture series to schools across NSW throughout the rest of the year. We're currently looking for additional eager and excellent speakers, who have the organisational finesse required to construct an accessible talk that highlights key aspects of the curriculum. We're particularly keen to hear from students and postdocs who may benefit the most from this rewarding experience. Future talks will touch on topics such as 'Moving About', 'The Cosmic Engine', 'Space', and 'Astrophysics'. In this spirit, the 2014 Workshop aims to attract attendees representing the breadth of Australian Astronomy (Men - this means you too!), and is targeting decision makers within and outside of Astronomy. This year's Workshop, in addition to its normal focus on gender diversity, will also explore issues surrounding other areas of diversity including LGBTIQ and cultural background. The workshop will include talks by experts, professional training sessions, and breakout sessions that explore real life situations. The event will finish with a panel discussion of how to bring about meaningful change, moderated by Elizabeth Broderick, the Australian Sex Discrimination Commissioner, which will include CSIRO CEO Megan Clarke, PM Science Prize Winner Terry Speed (WEHI), and ARC CEO Aidan Byrne. The workshop will be free to all participants, but venue size is limited. We anticipate that there may be limited travel support for a small number of participants. We encourage you to register your interest at this link. Please do not hesitate to contact: C?line d'Orgeville or Brian Schmidt for more information on this workshop. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The eclipse will be visible throughout Australia. In Sydney for example, the eclipse begins at 4.14 pm and ends at 5.17 pm at sunset. Mid-eclipse is at 5.15 pm, just before sunset, when 52% of the Sun's diameter will be covered. Many other parts of Australia will see a similar amount or even more of the disk covered. The eclipse can be safely viewed using a telescope equipped with a specialised solar filter or simply projecting the image through a small telescope. Cardboard framed 'eclipse glasses' meeting international standards are also safe to use if their instructions are followed. Suitable 'eclipse glasses' are available locally from reputable astronomy shops, public Observatories and Planetaria. More information about the eclipse and safe ways to view it can be found in the attached Factsheet produced by EPOC, the ASA's Education and Public Outreach Chapter. The sheet has also been posted on the ASA's Australian Astronomy web site (http://www.astronomy.org.au). The Factsheet link is http://astronomy.org.au/factsheets/ You may wish to use this sheet to inform friends, students or the public about this event. The sheet may be freely copied for wide distribution provided the Australian Astronomy and ASA logos are retained.
