The next ATUC meeting will be held 30-31 October 2012 at the ATNF headquarters in Marsfield, and will be proceeded by an ATUC Science Meeting entitled ?Time Domain Astronomy? on 29 October (see below for more details). On 30 October, an ATUC Open Session will be held which consists of reports and updates on the various aspects of ATNF operations. All users are welcome to attend the Open Session. Videocon facilities will be available. An agenda for the Open Session will be made available on the ATUC web page closer to the meeting. In the afternoon of the 30th and on the 31st October, ATUC will hold a closed session, during which a report to the ATNF Director is drafted. If you, as a user (or potential user) of the ATNF, are aware of any issues that need to be raised at the next ATUC meeting, would like to present a short topic for discussion, or would like to offer praise for the many ATNF achievements, please contact any member of ATUC over the next few weeks. Information on ATUC and how to contact its members can be found at: http://www.atnf.csiro.au/management/atuc ATUC Science Meeting Science Drivers for Parkes Receiver Development: Monday 29 October, ATNF Marsfield Lecture Theatre http://www.atnf.csiro.au/management/atuc/2012oct/science_meeting/ The AT Users Committee will hold a one day science discussion before its October meeting in 2012, to consider priorities for new receivers for the Parkes Telescope. In order to reduce operations costs, the number of receiver changes per semester at Parkes will be limited in future years. In order to maximise the science potential of the telescope, new receivers are planned, that may include ultra-wideband and/or new phased-array feed systems. Science priorities and technical specifications will be determined in the coming year. The ATUC seeks community input through discussions at this symposium. These are offered at the levels of Lecturer (level B) and Senior Lecturer (level C). Preference will be given to applicants with research interests in theoretical cosmology and galaxy formation, however the positions are open to researchers in all areas of extragalactic astrophysics. The School of Physics comprises some 23 academic staff, 50 research-only staff, and more than 95 postgraduate students. The School has six research groups including Astrophysics, Theoretical Particle Physics and Experimental Particle Physics, and hosts a node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for All-Sky Astrophysics (CAASTRO), providing a vibrant collaborative environment. The Astrophysics group currently undertakes a broad range of theoretical, observational and computational research programs in topics including cosmology, galaxy formation, gravitational lensing, and relativistic and particle astrophysics. Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact Professor Stuart Wyithe with any requests for additional information. Applications should be submitted through the University of Melbourne web site at http://jobs.unimelb.edu.au (position numbers 0029784 and 0029785) prior to the 30th November. These should address the selection criteria, and must include a CV, list of publications, Statement of Research Interests, and the names of three referees. ============================= Professor Stuart Wyithe Australian Laureate Fellow School of Physics University of Melbourne Vic, Australia 3010 Phone: +61 3 8344 5083 Fax: +61 3 9347 4783 Email: swyithe at unimelb.edu.au ============================= -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The workshop will cover surveys, characterisation and theoretical modelling of planet formation and evolution - indeed anything related to the science of planets orbiting other stars. Participants are encouraged to give a short presentation, either on a specific research issue, or to brief the workshop on the research capabilities in exoplanetary science in their departments at present. There will also be an opportunity to discusss important questions, and strategies for increasing linkages and collaborations as a means to expanding this critical research area in the future. There is no registration fee to attend the Workshop. However, please indicate your attendenance via the registration page (http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/planets/registration.html), which includes the option to submit a title and abstract of the talk.
